Br. Andrew Jones
Ministry at Ecclesia in the Bowery & St. Ann’s Church for the Deaf
Br. Andrew is an ordained Deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of New York. In February 2025, he and the Archdeacon of the Diocese launched Ecclesia in the Bowery, a street ministry rooted in Lower Manhattan. Part of the broader Ecclesia network, the ministry offers community outreach beyond traditional church walls, focusing on relationship-building, spiritual care, Eucharistic worship, and fellowship with the poor and marginalized. Services are held every Sunday at 2:00 p.m.—rain or shine!
Br. Andrew also serves at St. Ann’s Church for the Deaf, the oldest Deaf congregation in the United States. He originally began attending to brush up on his American Sign Language and reconnect with the Deaf community. That initial motivation quickly deepened. With St. Ann’s long without permanent clergy, he stepped in as a lay officiant, leading Sunday Morning Prayer twice a month. Just before the COVID-19 lockdown, he helped the congregation transition to online services—an adjustment the Deaf community was, in many ways, already well prepared for. After the pandemic, Br. Andrew joined the Bishop’s Committee to help St. Ann’s discern a new Vicar. Today, he continues to serve as he is able, providing weekly ASL translations of the Scripture readings.
